“I profess to my students: do not disrespect your patients by telling them they are ill or broken. We are not broken.”
Caitlin Regan, LPC
WHO THIS IS FOR
The teenage years are one of the most emotionally complex periods of life, and one of the most underserved when it comes to real mental health support. School counselors are stretched thin, parents feel shut out, and teenagers often feel like no one in the adult world genuinely gets it.
Caitlin works with teenagers ages 13 to 17 across New Jersey and Florida. She spent 13 years as a teacher before becoming a counselor, which means she understands the school system, the social dynamics of adolescence, and the specific pressures teens face today from the inside out.
YOU MIGHT BE IN THE RIGHT PLACE IF
WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
Most therapists who work with teenagers understand adolescence from a clinical lens. Caitlin brings something additional: 13 years as an educator who sat in classrooms, navigated school systems, trained guidance counselors, and watched how teenagers actually function in the real environment of school.
She also has her own experience of being a teenager who struggled with mental health, in a system that did not always know how to support her. That personal history creates a bridge of genuine understanding with the teenagers she sees in sessions.

WHAT WE WORK THROUGH TOGETHER
Caitlin meets teenagers where they are, in the language they use, without the clinical distance that makes adolescents shut down in therapy. Every focus area below is approached through that lens.
The pressure to achieve, fear of failure, test anxiety, and the weight of expectations from school, parents, and themselves.
Friendship dynamics, social media comparison, inclusion and exclusion, and the constant performance of adolescent social life.
Who they are, what they value, how they see themselves, and building a sense of identity that belongs to them rather than to others' expectations.
Processing experiences that have been hard to talk about. Caitlin's trauma specialization means she can work safely and effectively with teenagers who have a trauma history.
Navigating family tension, changing relationships with parents, and learning to communicate needs in a household that may not always understand.
Practical tools for managing anxiety, mood shifts, and big emotions that feel overwhelming during adolescence.
HOW CAITLIN WORKS WITH TEENS
Teenagers are perceptive. They know immediately whether an adult is genuinely present or going through the motions. Caitlin builds real therapeutic relationships with the teens she works with, not just clinical alliances. That means meeting them where they are, speaking their language, and earning trust rather than assuming it.
“Building a rapport with a teenager takes time and real skill. Once it’s there, the work that becomes possible is remarkable.”
01
Teenagers open up when they feel safe and genuinely seen. The first sessions focus on building that foundation before anything else. No rushing.
02
Caitlin takes time to understand the specific pressures, relationships, and dynamics each teenager is navigating. Context is everything at this age.
03
Coping skills, emotional regulation strategies, and communication tools they can actually use at school, at home, and in their social lives.
04
The goal is a teenager who understands themselves better, trusts their own judgment more, and feels genuinely capable of choosing their healthy.
GETTING STARTED
A straightforward look at what the process looks like for both teenagers and the parents or guardians supporting them.
A parent, guardian, or the teenager themselves can initiate. Book through SimplePractice or call 732.794.0787. No referral needed.
Caitlin meets with the teenager and gathers background from their perspective. Parents may be included in part of this session depending on the situation.
Together, Caitlin and the teenager identify what they are working toward and what the sessions will focus on. The teen's goals lead the work.
Regular sessions that build on each other, with practical tools the teenager takes into their real life. Progress is visible and collaborative.
A NOTE FOR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
Watching your teenager struggle is one of the hardest experiences of parenthood. Caitlin understands that parents are a central part of the picture, even when teenagers need their own private space in sessions. She keeps communication with parents open and collaborative in a way that respects the teenager’s trust while keeping families appropriately informed.
Caitlin does not share session content with parents without the teenager’s consent, except in circumstances required by law. She will always let parents know their teenager is safe.
If you have questions about what teen counseling looks like, how confidentiality works for minors, or how to support your teenager through the process, Caitlin is happy to talk through all of it before booking.
